Blue, Boots, and Burgundy

Whew, my busy week is over. Time for new experimental outfit. :D
Cropped blazer: Isaac Mizrahi for Target (thrifted, eBay size 4)
Dress: Old Navy (thrifted)
Belt: American Rag (eBay, available here)
Tights: MUJI (MUJI SF)
Boots: unknown (clothing swap)
Necklace: Forever 21 (thrifted)
I finally altered my Isaac Mizrahi for Target cropped blazer. I last wore it here, when I was feeling like a video game heroine. I removed the shoulder pads and folded the collar down, as I feel these alterations make me look much less like a fullback with a bull neck. I already have broad shoulders and only 6 cervical vertebrae, so I really don't need the help.
I took a photo after removing only one shoulder pad. I wonder which one?
Here is my Hunchback of Notre Dame impression.
I seriously have no idea how to describe this ensemble. The only thing I have come up with is if I let my eyes go unfocused, I kind of look like I'm dressed to fight in the Crusades. I think I like it.

  2. I can see the crusade thing... maybe because the dress is sort of tunic-like, with a medieval sort of tie belt, and Robin-Hood boots (not sure why, that's just where I went). But to me, it says you know how to style a cotton jersey(?)shirt dress... and I can learn from observing you closely (for I love me some shirt dresses.)

Also, Hunchback Impression made me laugh. I need to remember to read blogs when I feel down, not avoid them, because you guys often lift my spirits.

    1. I'm glad blogs can be of some assistance! I think I can understand what you mean a bit, though. You leave thoughtful, lovely comments that are a joy to read, but they also take time and energy, and when you're feeling down, you don't have that to spare.

  3. I love that cropped blazer to pieces, and I really adore the whole outfit. That dress looks amazing on you and I love the belt. The whole thing just looks so ... expensive? put together? amazing? All of these? Your style makes me happy.

I'm terribly awkward at leaving blog comments. <3

    1. Oh thank goodness, I'm not alone in feeling that way. I keep trying to come up with more specific things to say than "You're lovely and I like your clothes!" ;D

      Thank you!

  4. I love these colors!! The boots are so badass. I always have to take out shoulder pads. ;o; Curse of the broad shouldered. The jacket looks great on you without the shoulder pads though!

Gah and those boots. If the DH wouldn't kill me for buying another pair, I'd already be browsing ebay.

  5. This outfit is FABOO!

It would be just another great outfit, but those tights are just EXACTLY the up-a-notch thing to embetter it.

    You are so awesome.

  6. That color combination is outrageously good. Like you, I end up folding stand-up collars down ... anything to make my short neck look a little longer. :)

  8. At the risk of repeating myself, your personal style has leapfrogged to the front of the line of my favorites. So creative, so different. And you keep pushing the bar up. I'm sticking around here until you tell me to buzz off. :)

    1. Haha, Ally you are always so sweet. When I started this blog, it was my hope to have several readers, some of whom might even be the style bloggers I read! You totally made that come true and now here you are! :D

  9. It has a terrific video game heroine look about it - fab outfit! Good for you for making that jacket fit YOU, not you fitting it.

    1. Thank you, Sheila!

It's funny, I had a discussion with my boyfriend about people adding monsters to thrifted paintings (http://twistedsifter.com/2012/04/adding-monsters-to-thrift-store-paintings/) and if it's the equivalent to altering a designer's work to fit your personal aesthetic. I don't know if we reached any sort of conclusion. -_-

  10. I am digging this look on you, especially the boots! I hope you will pair them with some animal print and then join Adrienne and me for "How I Wear My: Animal Print". We'd love to have you join us again!

    1. Woah, excellent idea Jill. I hadn't thought of pairing my (one) animal print item with these, but I think it will go very well. I'm looking forward to your HIWM for next month, too!
