Low brightness florals

Evidently I don't eschew all florals for myself, just bright, busy ones. :D As it turns out, low brightness ones that look kind of Asian make me go "Ooh!"
Shirt shell: handmade (thrifted)
Black underdress: H&M (thrifted)
Mermaid chambray skirt: Bebe (thrifted)
Pendant: handmade (old)
Platform boots: ALDO (thrifted)

There's a little bit of tiny old Asian lady going on, so I'm going to add some darts to shape the garment better. It appears to be handmade!

It actually reminds me of this shell I was staring at the other day, only for 1/15th the price.
This is what I was wearing underneath:
The buttons have figure-eight loops so they sit side by side down the front! I was very charmed. Almost as charmed by how it doesn't breathe at all so it keeps me warm. Even if I have to wash it immediately after one wearing. >.>
I am digging this mermaid style skirt, found after I'd been searching for a year. What do you wear for footwear with one? I went with boots, because I always wear boots, but I'd like to know what you all think.

  1. People like me are known to have an inexplicable attraction to mermaids, so your skirt appeals to me on a primal level. I'd wear it with a snazzy shoe, like a Mary Jane pump in interesting color(s). (I'd pull my blue with white piping ones from the closet.)

    1. I love those Mary Janes of yours! I remember when you featured them in a post. I have very few pairs of traditional "lady" shoes, but I'm going to pull them out from their boxes and give 'em a try.

  2. Hi Aya!

I would wear your mermaid skirt with booties or even better DocMartens and crazy socks!
    Congrats about your award!

    1. Thank you Ariane! Great suggestions, I am going to try those too! I just am getting into wearing socks that aren't plain white athletic socks. You are an inspiration!

  3. I love mermaid style skirts. I have a couple and I also wear boots with them. I can sometimes do a little pointed coloured heel. Often I'll wear some heeled oxfords or brogues with my tweed one. It looks great on you BTW and fits you like a dream.

The button closures on that blouse are darling.

    1. Oh man, oxfords. I would love to get a pair that would fit my wide feet. I'll be on the lookout!

  4. So glad you lost the overblouse in the other images. That garment ages you - and you are a young THANG!

    1. Thanks Tami! I started out loving the blouse, then as the day wore on I started contemplating if it was too old-Asian-lady. I'm going to try doing princess darts on it and see if that helps. :D I value your feedback so much~

  5. Man. I have no advice on the Mermaid Skirt Dilemma (yes, it deserves the caps) because mermaid skirts confuse me. Like you, I'd probably go with boots because I like to wear boots with pert near everything too.

    1. It might be because they hit both of us in an odd spot. I suspect mine was actually meant to be a midi skirt on Miss J. Normal, the person they make these things for, so it doesn't quite hit my ankle.

Since you're tall, a maxi mermaid skirt might also hit you between mid-shin and ankle. I suspect boots would look rock-on with ankle to floor length. As it is, they merely rock.

  6. The shell is stunning--a lovely color on you. I think putting in princess darts is a good idea-- it will give it some shape.
The Mermaid skirt--I love the style but I can never find one the right length on me.

  7. THAT SKIRT IS GORGEOUS AMAZING. It follows your shape beautifully.

As for foot wear? I dunno, anything? My best advice is just make sure whatever you do wear shows the shape of your ankle. Slouchy boots under a long skirt can kill any sense of your legs. Otherwise, I'd say just about anything else works.

PS GOT THE PANTZ TODAY! They totally fit. Love them! Thanks!
