Repurposed

  I hate mornings.
Prairie hoodie: Prairie Underground (thrifted)
Dress: Liz Lange) maternity for Target (thrifted)
Harness: Audra Jean (Megan Mae)
Jodhpurs-as-leggings: Ariat Pro (thrifted)
Boots: Fitzwell (6pm.com, old)

Trivia: my mother has a stuffed cat with the same facial expression I am wearing above. She was scooting through an airport in Japan to catch a flight when she saw it in a gift store window and couldn't stop laughing. She brought it home and showed me, and sometimes when I wake up with this expression while I'm visiting, she runs and gets it and holds it up next to my face.
I'm convinced modern scheduling was invented by psychopaths who ran around changing everything while the rest of us were sleeping until a reasonable hour. I spend the first two hours of each day hating everyone on earth (not personal) and not being able to open my eyes all the way.
Maternity wear: yes! Pregnant: no! I think it drapes very nicely as a tunic/dress.

As much as I hate mornings, I like socializing with my friends more, so after a late night of a housewarming party and going to see my friend's band play, I got up early to go to dim sum, another housewarming party, and wushu class. It is more socializing than I've probably done in the rest of 2013.
These pinstripe Ariat jodhpurs (mentioned in my thrifting post here) are so comfortable. They stretch very well and the pockets are reasonably roomy and accessible.

As I was going out the door, I added this hat by San Diego hat company, since I seemed to have an overall 'riding' theme going on, with repurposed jodhpurs, riding-style boots, and a Western-inspired hoodie. Sorry I didn't get a photo of it, but I've used my brilliant photoshop skills to bring the full outfit to you:
I'm still low on sleep, so this is a short post, but when the week slows down, I hope to have more up. Have you ever worn clothes that weren't as intended?

  1. What a fun outfit! You're not alone, I've also worn pieces in ways other than they were intended. One of my favourites is to use jewelry (such as brooches and necklaces) as hair accessories (or shoe clips in the case of brooches). I also love turning just about any sleeveless dress into a jumper style dress by putting a blouse or thin knit shirt under it.

    1. I love these ideas. I just saw my first case of a blouse worn under a sleeveless dress and now I want to try it, too!

  2. Aya! You look very sweet! I am so in love with the face you are making! LOL how awesome that there is a stuffed cat out there with the same face? :P That harness looks great with the dress! I sometimes feel like they can be awkward, but it really works with this!

Thanks for your kind comments on my post and also for letting me know about Bloglovin! My account has been kinda jacked up ever since I changed the name of my blog a few years ago. Blogger problems! Hehehe.

  3. Ha! Love the facial expression. And, hey, aren't the first two commenters, along with you, the same three women I saw on a recent post of mine?! I wanted to create connections among lovely people and am hugely pleased to see it happen. Yay!

    1. Ally, all of the lovely people I have met through blogging essentially came through you, or through people through you. :D

  4. ha ha! That hat is just too funny Photoshopped on there.

I think the harness makes the dress work and ensures that no one actually thinks you're preggo. Adds an edge.

I have often stumbled across some maternity items that looked super cute but didn't buy them because I was sure someone would ask me when my due date was. I'm not as daring as you. The older I get the less likely someone would confuse me with being with child though…maybe I need to reconsider ; )

    1. I was a little dubious the first time I found a maternity shirt, but it was *so* comfortable, and the ruching at the waist was so flattering! I thought this one looked kind of Greek goddess. I can't imagine anyone would mistake you for pregnant unless you smuggled a beach ball under there.

  5. We don't even have dim sum our backwards little burb. I only get it for breakfast, or at all, when I visit The Costume Technician in NYC. Then I'm tearful each time I board the plane home, because I don't want to part with all the food, I mean my daughter.

A maternity dress! You totes can't tell. It's very modern and pretty. I'm embarrassed to admit now how when I first started blogging, I posted a dress that turned out to be a maternity dress, and I was kicking myself over how stupid I was to fall for the fabo draping and that inspired empire waist. Now I know I should have just cut the tag out of it and worn it to all holiday meals.

    1. Haha! That's fantastic. I have to convince my brother and mother when I visit Southern CA that I'm really there to see them, not to pick up clothes my mother brought me from Japan. >.>

Rock clothes that fit no matter what they may have been designed for. The clothes that still fit me best are husky boy clothes. It's been the case since I was 6.

  6. Creative outfit for a non-morning kind of girl! I'm not a massive fan of them either. Great for sitting in my chair, wrapped in a throw and sipping coffee until I can see.
Pretty color on you, BTW, and love the horsey bits! Those Ariats are a find! Nope, not looking a bit pregnant. Pretty and drapey and know you'll wear it lots in summer!

  7. You look gorgeous for someone claiming to hate the mornings and I freaking adore your face in that first pic. If it weren't creepy I think I'd make that my screensaver for a while. ;-) Because I am with you- NOT a morning person. Ask any of the girls I work with.

    1. Night owls unite!

Meghan, as someone who lives in fear of being creepy, and who actually had a stalker (of the whole company) at my last job, I can assure you that you are nowhere even close. Screensaver away!

    - AGREED! I honestly sort of wanted to die with the time change last week(or whenever that was). It is now pitch black when I leave work. Really? We're all going to be miserable in the morning. What is more sun going to do? I think we'd all benefit from more sun at the end of the day (the end of the day in a Northern NY winter apparently being 5pm). And who in their right mind (besides some bizarre early risers in my family) is functional before 8am?

Anyway... you are as cute as ever! I love the subtle riding theme.

    1. My aunt is a morning person, as in she wakes up at 5am without an alarm. She admits she's useless by late afternoon though, so research seems to show it's the same amount of productivity, it's just morning people get it done at the beginning of the day while normal people have a more steady burn.

She banged on my door when I stayed over once and yelled that it was almost 8am. I honestly briefly contemplated knocking her out with the printer.

I hate Daylight Fuckery Time. Stupid stupid stupid. AZ managed to have the good sense to get rid of it, why can't the rest of us?

  9. I loathe mornings - I am just not a morning person. People at work know to avoid me until after I've had my 2nd cup of coffee. Woe to he who disturbs me!

I wear my cape as a skirt! They fit better that way. I love this lavender colour on you, Aya, and I love the equestrian vibe of this outfit.

  10. LOL! I'm pretty sure I made that first face all day today. I apparently have such a bitch face in the morning, my in-laws learned not to talk to me first thing without being told.

Lovelovelove that harness on you! It's suits you so surprisingly well!

Also I love the dress/tunic thing. I often find really cute maternity clothes while thrifting. Nothing ever in my size, but retailers are gettin' hipper when it comes to dressing every body!
