A Beret at Bray's

Berets aren't commonly seen in California. Stereotypes that readily come to mind are the French, artists, and US army special forces, so when I look at these pictures, I confuse myself. I like the hat a lot, though. And I'm pretty sure I managed not to look like Che Guevara*.
Beret: Goorin Bros (sample sale)
Barometer shirt: Pilcro and the Letterpress (thrifted, some on eBay)
Skirt: Rebecca Taylor (thrifted, size 2 on eBay)
Mirjam shoes: Rieker-Antistress (thrifted)
Blazer: Twisted Heart (gift from brother)
I've checked, and with the exception of the wee neutral lines on my Ye Olde button-down, this new thrifted baby is my only striped shirt! I'm wearing stripes! I feel this is a big day for me.

It is also "texture salad" themed week at Spy Girl! You should go and play! It's open until Monday night.

I love all of her style challenges. I was contemplating layering different clothing textures while lying in bed for just five more minutes. I am also linking this baby up to Not Dead Yet Style's Visible Monday! Here are a bunch of macro selfies.
* When you're Asian, there are certain shapes of hat that instantly make you look like a Communist. This goes double if they are olive green or have any sort of pointy shapes sewn on. Notice I don't sport ushankas combined with quilted jackets, either.

The shirt is quite loose and long, so when I paired it with my thrifted steampunk-ish skirt, I wanted to give it some shape. I tried tucking it in only at the sides. I like it so much better I want to sew ruching into the sides so it has strings to adjust the length. I don't know what it's called, but it looks like this:
Any vocabulary help or tutorials you know of greatly appreciated! Also I plan to wear pants.

I think upon picture review, that a long flowy skirt would have worked better with the beret+shirt, and I like the blazer over the shirt and over the skirt, but not at once. There may be two separate outfits mish-mashed in here. More experimentation, as always, is needed.

Mullet Skirts

I have a confession: I like mullet dresses.

At least, that is what I have been calling this cut since they made their appearance:
This one is from Doublju, a Korean clothing company that sells some items through Amazon. I've recommended it to a few male friends of mine because they have some interesting urban pieces for men. Tricky in that the clothes tend to be cut for Asian proportions, though.

I haven't decided how I like the look on me, yet. You may find this odd, seeing as how I've owned this dress for like four months, but that's my other confession: clothes that enter my wardrobe get worked into outfits slowly.

I think my conclusion is I love how the color matches my scarf (a handmade gift from one of my bestest friends Meghan), and the cut is all right, but I hate the fabric. It's that cheap very stretchy thin fabric that seems to make up all junior clothing nowadays, that is good for draping and nothing else. You can see the lumps of my leggings waistband outlined under the material, and this dress is not in any way tight.  It also means in the back, where I feel this cut should fall in a graceful curve, it hangs limp and folded. It will probably be made into a pattern.

It was fun to layer under, though. I went with a black lace tank top under the back cutouts and black side lace leggings because the front of this thing is cut pretty high.
I am linking up to Patti of Not Dead Yet's Visible Monday. It was great fun meeting folks last time, and I hope this week I'll have time to check out more personal style blogs.

I ran out the door for a ramen appointment with friends and did not get close-up photos of my gorgeous scarf. I'll put some in my post tomorrow.

How about your wardrobe turnover? Do new things get used right away, or does it take time to integrate?

Also, if you want to know why outfits take time for me to figure out, it's because the process involves making this:
... so I have to make sure I have some time free after getting dressed to put everything away again. This is why every outfit gets logged in a notebook and on this blog now. I'm hoping there is a better way.

Scarf: handmade (Meghan)
Dress: Doublju (Amazon)
Black cincher belt: unknown (thrifted, Japan)
Black lace tank top and leggings: cheap junior stores
Lark boots: Naya (eBay)

Desaturated Rainbow

I didn't realize it until after I'd gotten dressed, but this outfit is a desaturated rainbow:
It's not all the way desaturated; I am no Desaturated Santa (she is awesome!) but beige is a type of orange with very little saturation. Ah, you may be asking, but where is the red?
  Peekaboo! I am a 360° desaturated rainbow. (:

I am a stranger to balmy weather after these 8 years on the peninsula, but I feel I'm ramping right back into it after pulling all of my remaining tank tops and lightweight trousers from the corners of my wardrobe.

I love the gold paint on this shirt. I wish I could capture how lovely the color is. I looked up the brand (Miss Poem) online and the brand is from Turkey! I love finding out about multinational brands through thrift finds. :D

This jacket was hands down the easiest jacket alteration I have ever done. I took in the side seams by stitching a single line down each side inside of the jacket, and shortened the sleeves by tucking up the fabric and sewing in a circle right under above the cuffs.  The wide bands with the button hide the line!

I don't have class on the 4th, and the break could not come sooner. I am so tired. There's a BART strike (the train system where I live) so in addition to my 12.5-hour summer school days I've been commuting by car this week, so that means hiking off campus and moving my car every 2 hours. It's very rare I'm so tired I can't eat, but that's been this week. Looking forward to sleeping a lot in between my studying this long weekend.

I hope you all have fabulous plans for this weekend, too. (: Have you ever dressed in a rainbow or other color theme? How about inadvertently? :D

Jacket: Live a Little (thrifted)
Green sleeveless top: Miss Poem (thrifted)
Pants: Sanctuary for Anthropologie (gift)
Rose scrunchee: Japan
