  I don't think this one turned out.

  I've had this LUX blazer (thrifted) for a while, and I was going for another Ye Olde look because the cut reminded me a bit of a waistcoat, and maybe a bit of a bodice, with its wide collar opening. Also it has pockets. Important!

  I like the color and the material, but the fit is funny. It is very tight under the chest (so tight it's pulling the buttons askew, haha) and loose from there down.

  I went with the Bow & Arrow shirt I wore in my very first blog post, for its pearl buttons. I would like to try a slightly foofy shirt or one that buttons all the way up plus a cravat, but I own neither. I added a box of stuff* I'm on the lookout for at the bottom of my gadgets, like a reminder to myself.

* I can't title it "wishlist" because then I'd have to put "unicorn"

  I'm entertained by the ends of my shirt ties hanging out the back. It's like my jacket is pooping. Because I'm twelve.

  Overall, I think the pinstripes on my trousers are not very visible, and the 3/4 cuffs on the blazer look like I'm going to a board meeting rather than adventuring with brass goggle adorned rabble-rousers. A longer bustle/hobble skirt might go well with the blazer too, but alas, something I also don't have.

  I did take out my purse, though. I don't often use purses, but this is one of those items I always have people telling me is cute. It even came with a long crossbody strap thoughtfully tucked inside!

  Your thoughts, dear readers? Should I alter the buttons and store it back in my closet for some more months until I find some things it goes with? Do you ever get things you want to style but find you don't have the right items to go with it (closet orphans)? If so, what do you do?

  If anyone has tips for how to look for Victorian/Edwardian inspired fashion without encountering  a jabillion "steampunk" items with sheet metal gears glued on, please let me know.

 Bow & Arrow puff sleeved button-up: I think this is what I wanted for my Everyday Steampunk outfit a few weeks ago.  Too bad even used it is 30 beans.

  I was poking around eBay for cropped/half blazer vest things (what on earth do you call something like this?) and discovered designer Louis Verdad. From what I've seen, his clothes have awesome small details and classical silhouettes. I'll be keeping an eye on items of his that turn up on eBay for inspiration.

  I think these are adorable. They are also maternity leggings. Probably going to buy a pair, anyway. The model is 5'4"! I may not have to chop 6 inches of fabric off the bottoms. It's very exciting.

Sun Francisco

  This morning I woke up, checked the weather report, and jumped out of bed singing "High of 91 today, high of 91 today, high of 91 today!"
  Today is the warmest day we've had all year, and I got to pull my summer clothes out of the closet. (And then I took a lined trench coat to school as a precaution, because campus is on the windiest, foggiest hilltop in SF.)

  The rare summery day here is like a festival.

  I really love this drapey vest/cardigan thingy. It has a racerback cut in the back done in lace. I get to wear it a few times a year when it is warm enough that I won't curl up and die of exposure.

  Couldn't get the color balance quite right, but this is a dusty rose colored scrunchee my mother bought for me from Japan.

  I had chem lab today, so I wore close-toed shoes. They may have made me look like a nursing student.

  Underneath, I wore celebratory socks.

  This is one of my favorite necklaces. My mom likes to go to Ginza, the shopping district in Tokyo, and look at things in store windows that cost more than my tuition. I tell her I am not comfortable in stores where if I sneeze on something I could end up in debtor's prison, but she says I am silly.

  I found a Printemps in Ginza: a French department store in downtown Tokyo. I fell in love with this necklace and it was on sale for ~$40. I love having a rainbow of beads and flowers on a gold chain around my neck. Wearing them with the pearls on this tank top makes me feel like I have a casket of jewels on my chest.

  Today was a gift, even the hours I spent in chem lab calculating the mineral content of water.
